ESSEC B School, France: How to get in?

ESSEC Business School is a top business school renowned for its Masters in Management program, located near Paris. It is known for its course flexibility and apprenticeship system, and also has a campus in Singapore. The school values leadership and a creative mindset.

Documents required

  • Passport
  • GMAT/GRE/CAT score
  • IELTS/TOEFL (optional)
  • One motivation letter
  • 2 LORs (specific format)
  • Resume/CV
  • Application-based questions about activities
  • 2 essays of 200 words each

Essays

The two essays are thought-provoking and aim to understand the experiences and values close to the applicant's heart:

  1. What matters most to you, and why? Tell us the values and experiences that have shaped the person you are.
  2. Provide to the admission committee any relevant additional information.

Referral form

You provide the names of your recommenders (preferably 2), their email ids and your relationship with them. ESSEC automatically sends them an online referral form asking:

  • How long have you known the candidate? In what context?
  • What do you consider to be the candidate's major strengths?
  • What do you consider to be the candidate's major weaknesses?
  • Would you recommend the candidate's admission to a demanding post-graduate program in business administration?

The form may also include metrics asking your recommender to rate you from outstanding to poor.

The interview round

After approximately 2 to 3 weeks you should get an invite for the live interview, usually conducted in Mumbai or Delhi. Be well prepared and research the school thoroughly. Common questions include:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • Why do you want to pursue Masters in Management?
  • Why do you want to study at ESSEC?
  • Have you applied to other schools?
  • Do you plan to study at the Singapore campus?
  • Have you looked at any specific tracks at ESSEC?
  • When do you plan to graduate from ESSEC? Have you looked at exchange degrees?
  • What are your career goals after ESSEC?
  • Have you ever visited a foreign country? If yes, talk about your experience.
  • Do you have any questions for me?
